Coimbra was the first capital of Portugal when it was founded in 1131, making it one of the oldest countries in the world. There you can even find some older archaeological structures dating back to the Roman era, when Coimbra was the settlement of Aeminium. The University of Coimbra has a student community of over 25.000 students from 75 different countries, turning Coimbra into an integrated university city with a vibrant academic spirit. Apart from attracting many international students, the university is visited by many tourists for its monuments and history. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition of it’s historical buildings, open courtyard, cultural traditions and stunning city-wide views.
In the exchange program, the students will have their academic activities in the university buildings: the general clinic (at DMD), the orthodontics post-graduation clinic (at DMD) and the hospital clinic (at CHUC). Most of their time in the clinics will be observing and assisting. Depending on the number of patients on those days and the student’s experience, they might have the chance to work in patients. There will be also social activities, such as the Gala dinner and a cultural program with several activities around the city.
